Will the Rams Be Active Around Cutdown Day?

Cutdown day is quickly approaching and NFL teams will have to cut from 80 to 75 players on September 1st and then from 75 to 53 on September 5th.

Our GM Billy Devaney has shown a talent for finding players on other team’s practice squads and cuts who then bring value to the Rams.  He picked up Daniel Fells, who probably will make the Rams team as a 3rd TE last year.  Devaney also picked up Kenneth Darby in 2008 who is challenging for the Rams backup running back spot.

Jason La Canfora of outlines a few players who could be roster crunch casualties on teams around the NFL.

Here are some scouting reports on players the Rams might be interested in after the jump.

Lionel Dotson – DE – Miami Dolphins – La Canfora says he has starting potential.  He’s athletic with a big motor and good pass rushing skills, but is big at 6-4 and 288 lbs.  If the Rams keep 5 DEs, he could fit in behind Long, Hall, Little and Adeyanju.

Jameel McClain – OLB – Baltimore Ravens – McClain is more of a 3-4 OLB pass rusher, but the Rams could always use more pass rushers.

Antwan Barnes – OLB – Baltimore Ravens – Barnes is another young pass rush OLB.

Gerris Wilkinson – LB – New York Giants – Is a big hitter in the run game, but the Rams have their LB depth in a good shape with Vobora, Draft, Grant, Chamberlain and Culberson.
