Rams Win Preseason Opener 23-20

The Rams won their first preseason game 23-20 at the Meadowlands, NJ.

The Rams first team offense played a little bit longer than a quarter until they finally got into a little bit of a groove.  Marc Bulger was able to connect on a long pass to Laurent Robinson.  Robinson was covered tightly, but Bulger fit a tight spiral into Robinson.

The Rams first team defense held strong against the run, but had some issues with pass rush and covering and tackling receivers in the passing game.

Here are a few notes on the individuals who had good games or plays of note:

  • Samkon Gado had a great game for the Rams.  He had a 77-yard touchdown run amongst other strong runs between the tackles.  Gado also looked solid returning kicks as well.  He didn’t show his speed on the kickoff returns, travelling in 1st gear but still having the ability to pick his holes.  He did show his break away speed on the 77-yard touchdown run, however.  Good showing all around.
  • Another player who impressed was QB Keith Null who led a touchdown drive.  He threw a tight, quick spiral to Sean Walker for a 13 yard touchdown pass.  He wasn’t asked to throw late in the game when the Rams were salting away the lead, but impressed in his 2 throws.
  • Antonio Pittman played well in special teams and showed speed and shiftiness at running back.
  • Leonard Little was able to get around the edge for a strip sack on Kellen Clemens.
  • CJ Ah You and Eric Moore combined to wreak havoc at the end of the game with the 3rd stringers in the game.
  • I kept my eye on Jason Smith and he played well with the 2nd string line against the 2nd string defense.
