Longshots

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch takes a look at four longshots to make the Rams roster and where they stand before the 1st preseason game against the New York Jets.

First is quarterback Keith Null, who is less of a longshot than the others.

Keith Null has never been to New York. Never been to an NFL game. During his entire college career at West Texas A&M, the team took only one plane trip. (Everything else was via bus.)

Next is guard Roger Allen III out of Missouri Western.

Allen must move ahead of Roy Schuening for the second-team position at left guard to have a chance at a job. He’s treating these preseason games like playoff contests.

“Coach told me if you’re going to mess up, mess up going 100 miles an hour,” Allen said. “If you’re not sure, just go and blast somebody. That’s what I plan on doing.”

He also covers Sean Walker and Cord Parks.  It is a lot of fun to hear about these guys with winding back stories who were unheralded coming out of college and are getting a chance to live their dream.
