Rams 2009 Pre-Season Opener

So how are we feeling? Other than doing back flips across my front lawn in anticipation of this Friday’s pre-season opener, I’m feeling the need for some revenge. Ok, in my mind I absolutely understand this is only game 1 of the pre-season. But my heart has a pretty good memory. It can’t seem to forget last November’s trouncing of the Rams in the Meadowlands (47-3). Can we have our defensive line kick Sanchez in the gut a few times after one of what I hope to be many sacks? (Did I say that out loud? I would never condone that kind of behavior. I meant to say “…graciously help him off the turf and wish him a nice day.”)

Spagnuolo says he will be playing the starters for about a quarter. So what are we looking for during that time? Just the basics. Can the offensive line protect Bulger in the pocket? Are they able to get out in front of Steven Jackson and set some blocks? How crisp and fast is Jackson (I’ve heard very little about him coming out of training camp)? Can Bulger keep his cool, make a few completions, and not turn the ball over? On the defensive said, again just the basics. Are Butler and Atogwe keeping up with the Jets WRs? Are the corners covering the middle of the field, is the defensive line applying pressure on Sanchez?

For the first quarter I will be glued to the TV. Unless you’re sharing some savvy on-field analysis or insight, don’t talk to me. During the first commercial you’d better not get in between me and either the fridge or the bathroom. After the first quarter, it’s all good. It is time to sit back and drink it all in; the chips, the dips, the hot wings, and the ice cold beverages that are reaching out to embrace me. NFL football, I missed you man.
