Rams Gab Scrimmage Report

Rams Gab’s training camp reporter, my brother Zachary Roman was at the Rams scrimmage and he filed this report.  Thanks Zach!

Its being reported that there was approximately 7,000 fans at the scrimmage. The stands were almost all full with people also standing at the fence around the field and sitting on the green area behind one of the end zones.

The whole report is after the jump!

Let the games begin!

1st team Offense vs. 2nd team defense:

Regular play starting at own 40:
On a key 3rd and 8 play Alex Barron false started effectively ending any chance of us getting the first. (Ed note: Alex Barron’s leash with the Rams fans this year will be shorter than ever.)
Craig Robinson stepping in front of Robinson on one play but dropped an easy INT, he should still get credit for reading the play so well.
The WRs seemed to rotate in and out, but Avery and Robinson were the main wide outs with the first team.

During the backed up section (starting at own 3):
Quincy Butler made a great read and just stepped in front of Avery for an INT.

3rd down situations:
3rd and 3: Pass to Mcmichael to pick up first down.
3rd and 7: Another pass to Mcmichael for the first down.
3rd and 12: Long pass (35 yards) to Burton for the first down.
4th and 2: Bullet pass to Avery on quick slant to pick up the first. Avery was able to gather the pass in even with a defender on his back.

Red zone offense:
If it wasn’t for this section being ‘thud’ only instead of live tackling, I’m sure that Steven Jackson would have been able to break a couple runs for TDs.
Burton was able to gather in a TD of his own.

During the 2 minute drill Todd Johnson made an amazing diving INT on a deflection by Laurianitis on a pass intended for Randy Mcmichael by Bulger.

2nd team offense vs 1st team defense:
When backed up at own 3, Brock Berlin(getting some reps with the 2nd unit) fumbled the snap and just fell on it in the end zone.

3rd down situations:
3rd and 5: Pass to Bajema in the flat, stopped at the marker by OJ.
3rd and 7: Pass to Curry with Wade on his back.
3rd and 13: Offsides on Leonard Little.. 3rd and 7: Pass intended for Fells broken up by Witherspoon.

During the red zone period, James Hall was able to get the quarterback and strip the ball out of his throwing hand.

The 2nd team offense was able to score a touchdown on a nice play action by Berlin and a nice pass to a wide open Eric Butler in the flat who could have crawled into the end zone for the TD.

During the 2 minute drill it was noticeable that Jason Smith was getting schooled on a couple plays in a row by Little and Victor.

Here’s Smith getting some revenge on a draw for Steven Jackson.

Things of note from 3rd team offense and Defense:
KC Asiodu was able to pick off Berlin on a pass behind the fullback Johnson.
Null and Ogbonyana had a couple instances of confusion where they ran into each other in the backfield.
Brooks Foster made a great adjustment to catch a 40 yard pass from Null that was just a bit short.
Brooks Foster was also able to beat 2 defenders to score a touchdown on a reverse from the 9 yard line.
