Rams Gab Position Preview – Specialists

We are going to be previewing every position on the Rams here at the eve of training camp.  The last group is the specialists.

Josh Brown – K

The Rams signed Josh Brown away from the rival Seattle Seahawks with a lucrative free agent contract.  He was one of the few bright spots in 2008 as he took to the Dome like a fish to water and had no trouble making field goals.  Hopefully, the Rams will use his services less in the red zone and Brown will be able to show his stuff with the game on the line.

Donnie Jones – P

The Rams Pro Bowl “snub”, Donnie Jones has had a great career so far with the Rams.  He has had an elite gross punting average, but a mediocre net punting average.  As the Rams improve their punt coverage and special teams, Jones’s numbers will start to look inline with the elite punters in the game.

Chris Massey – LS

The Long snapper.  No one knows their name, no one wants to know their name until something goes wrong with the snap.  Massey is a good long snapper and has been in the league for eight years and knows what he’s doing.  The Rams would be wide wise to hold on to Massey as you never think getting a long snapper until you don’t have one.
