Steve Wyche at Rams Camp

Steve Wyche of NFL.com was at Rams training camp today and has two blog posts up, first about Steve Spagnuolo “coaching up” the Rams.

If a player makes a mistake, a coach — including Spagnuolo — will pull him to the side and show him what he needs to do right — not what he is doing wrong. Not much negative stuff going on and most of the yelling is encouragement. I saw Falcons coach Mike Smith use the same strategy last year in his first camp with the Falcons and, as we know, it paid benefits. The positive reinforcement amid a demanding camp helps guys, especially young players, which the Rams have plenty of, get through.

Secondly, Wyche interviews MLB James Laurinaitis and comes away impressed.

Just got done talking to Rams rookie linebacker James Laurinaitis. What an impressive guy. The second-round pick will eventually start at middle linebacker…

Laurinaitis, who will call the plays on defense, told me how he took extensive notes after his first minicamp and studied tape in the weeks leading up to OTAs so when he got back, he knew all the calls and audibles.
