Rams Gab Position Preview – Fullbacks

We are going to be previewing every position on the Rams here at the eve of training camp.  Next up are the fullbacks.

Mike Karney

The number one person who will be excited about the arrival of Mike Karney in St. Louis is Steven Jackson.  He should benefit from having an actual bruising fullback in the lineup.  Jackson will be able to dash out on passing downs while Karney will be able to chip on defensive ends or pick up the free blocker.  Mike Karney should have as big an impact on the Rams running game as any of the newly acquired offensive linemen.

Jerome Johnson

Jerome Johnson is an interesting case as he was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Nevada.  That’s not the interesting part, as he played linebacker in college and will be playing fullback for the Rams.  In year’s past, the Rams haven’t even had one true fullback on the roster, opting instead for an H-back.   But the new Rams bruising Midwest offense requires a fullback.  If the Rams will keep more than one fullback on the roster, Johnson will be in luck.
