Atogwe to Sign Tender – Long-Term Next?

Today is OJ Atogwe day today as news comes from Profootballtalk.com that Atogwe will sign his franchise tender today.

Does the timing of the announcement mean the two sides are working on a long-term deal before 4pm Eastern time today?

That seems not to be the case as Albert Breer at Sporting News says, “But the sides could not come to an agreement on a long-term accord.”

At this point in the process it was unclear if the long-term deal was going to get done this afternoon, but the timing does seem to be a bit more that coincidental.

UPDATE: Breer and Bill Coats of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch both agree that the Rams did not come to a long-term agreement with Atogwe.  So, I guess we wait until the end of the season to negotiate long-term with OJ.

I hope the Rams make a long-term commitment to Atogwe. He is the only play maker we have on defense. He can force and recover fumbles and get the pick. Whenever he does, there is always a chance he score. And with the o-line in trouble and no consistent wideouts, we need all the chances we can get to score.
