Rams Cardinals Football
Let’s start out by being honest: there isn’t much new news to talk about these days in the NFL. Much less the Rams, as they aren’t exactly a hot team right now. But I’d like to highlight something Bill Coats said in the most recent chat:

“Under new DC Ken Flajole, the Rams are going to play more “press” coverage, with the CBs challenging the WRs at the line and the safeties covering deep. So, pressure on the QB is going to be very important.

That sounds like a good plan right? Get to the QB, stop the pass before it happens, etc, etc. Easy enough, in theory, to do.

But these are the Rams.

For this plan to work, not only must the Rams CB’s be able to jam the likes of Larry Fitzgerald, T.J. Houshmanzadeh, Roddy White, Calvin (and Andre) Johnson, Reggie Wayne, etc… That isn’t even to mention the 2nd WR on the depth chart (Anthony Gonzalez, Anquan Boldin, Donald Driver, etc).

I know it’s a massive name crap, but the CB’s are going to really have to shine if this is to work. CB’s have to pressure and guard their target so that the QB can’t simply throw the ball before the D-Line+Spoon gets to him.

Luckily the Rams re-signed Ron Bartell and have promising youth, but someone is going to have to break through this offseason. In theory, again, it should be easy enough to have that happen. One must play better than the others, right?

But these are the Rams.

And don’t even forget about the little thing called run defense. But hey, all we need is for Long, Carriker, Ryan, a SAM linebacker to be named later, Tye Hill, insert-name-here-nickelback and James Lauranitis to have breakout seasons.

The lines just look too thin. But then, who knows, as that may be something good.
