Roster Surgery

Rams Camp Football
It’s been a bit of a bare patch for news about the Rams as they transition from the pre-draft to post-draft. Mini-camps have come and gone, without much news. No injuries so far, which is always a good thing (It’s gotten so bad I’m even afraid for the team to practice). But with Rams vet’s getting cut left and right (see: Pina), just what does this new organization have in store for the Rams?

Taking a look at some information that STLtoday has provided, 21 Rams players that were on the team last year were sent packing this offseason. Full time starters, “veteran depth” (shocking concept, I know) are all gone. Many stars from yester-year were simply shown the door.

I for one have to be skeptical about this. Sure, it’s worked out good so far with Miami and Atlanta, but this is the St. Louis Rams we are talking about. No disrespect to Billy Devaney or Spags, but they aren’t exactly Bill Parcells. Some of the players were obviously cap casualties. Some were just Linehan players (meaning they weren’t very good) and others were just stuck without a position.

But getting rid of 21 players on a team that has little to no depth at any position is a little bit unnerving. I’m hoping they see something in these young players and they aren’t just gambling they can make the jump to a NFL starter caliber level or it’s going to be a long year for the Rams, and the fans.
