What To Do In The Second Round?

With the trade for Laurent Robinson, the chance that the Rams will draft a WR in the second round has gone from “good chance” to “no chance”.  The chances the Rams will draft a WR in the first round has gone from “slight chance” to “not a chance in hell”.  This will shake up the Rams draft board, especially as the second round is concerned.

If the Rams select Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forrest in the 1st round, some options in the second round are:

William Beatty, OT, Connecticut – He recently visited Rams Park and he would fit in with the Rams at either tackle position.

Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma – Loadholt projects more as a right tackle, but the Rams would be happy with that as long as Barron is capable at left tackle.

Ziggy Hood, DT, Missouri – Hood would be a great player and would help Carriker press the pocket from the DT position.

Jamon Meredith, OT, South Carolina – He may be a reach at the top of the second round, but if the Rams like him – they should select him no matter the reach.

Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut – Tye Hill is hoping to have a resurgent season, but if the Rams don’t believe Hill or want someone to press him for the starting job, Butler is the pick.

If the Rams select one of the offensive tackles, either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe at number 2 overall, some options in the second round are:

James Laurinitis, LB, Ohio State – I don’t know if he will drop this far, but I have some projections putting him at the top of the 2nd round.  He would fit will in the middle of the Rams linebacking corps.

Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut – See above.

Is there anyone else available in the second round that the Rams should pick that’s not a OT or WR?  Let me know if the comments.

I’d be pretty happy with Beatty or Hood.

They seem like 1st round talent.
