Mike Sando of ESPN has expanded upon an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch by Jim Thomas in which the Rams have 77 career receptions on their roster right now. 77! 21 players in the NFL has more receptions than that last season alone. That is astonishing.
So, what do the Rams do about this? In the free agent market are only 30-plus year old wide receivers who are on the decline. As Jim Thomas says in the article, the Rams are not interested in older players. They would like younger players that are still on the upswing. And rightly so.
Jim Thomas names a few restricted free agent wide receivers who would all be decent choices, but they are tendered at the 2nd round level. With our high 2nd round pick – that is not a good idea.
So, what other receivers are out there that the Rams should go after? Does anyone know?

I don’t think the Rams have any choice, there is no way they are going to get a young rising-star WR for anywhere near what they want to pay and that is if any are left on the FA market.
That being said, I wouldn’t find it surprising if they did indeed sign one of those veteran players at for cheap on a one/two year contract. It’s obvious Avery and Burton are being counted on to become the future Holt and Bruce, or just the future, and a good veteran influence and mentor wouldn’t hurt at all.
That being said…Bruce is available.
