The Rams get their 3 B’s

In the initial wave of free agency, the Rams signed ex-Raven C Jason Brown. A few days later, the Rams kept emerging CB Ron Bartell. Now, after over a week of free agency, the Rams signed another player, SS James Butler.

According to Bill Coats at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams inked James Butler to a four year, 17 million dollar contract, with that figure including all possible incentives. This is the third deal the Rams have made to keep/bolster their secondary (franchising Otogwe and re-signing Bartell) and brings in an underrated SS to a young, improving group of players.

With the cap space at around 2.8 million dollars before the signing, it seems unlikely the Rams will make any more moves until either Torry Holt or Orlando Pace are traded or cut. In 8 days he is due a 1.25 million dollar roster bonus, which seems to be the deadline for any trade to happen before he is simply cut to save money. There are some reports out of New York that say the Jets may have some interest in Holt, which seems possible because their new WR’s coach is also the former Rams coach and player Henry Ellard. They also lost WR Laveranues Coles, so it will be interesting to see what happens in the next week.
