Secondary is Not Secondary for the Rams

The St. Louis Rams are trying to fill in their needs in free agency in the secondary as soon as possible. The Rams have their eyes on two players specifically.   It may be difficult for the Rams to have their focus split between these two players, but we here at Rams Gab will do our best to make it easy on them.

First, Ron Bartell.  One of the Rams few player development sucess stories is being courted by the Rams and the New Orleans Saints.  The Rams have made a few offers to Bartell, but he left St. Louis without a new contract.  He also was offered a contract by the New Orleans Saints, but left New Orleans without signing it.  Bartell is looking for $7 Million a year and he must not have gotten it from the Saints.  That puts the Rams back in the driver’s seat for Bartell (at this exact instant).  Was Bartell using the Saints for leverage against the Rams?  We may never know.  But Bartell is still available and has not visited any other teams.  So, it looks good for the Rams. The Rams should focus on Bartell first, as he has another offer on the table.

Second, James Butler.  Butler used to play under Rams head coach Steve Spagnoulo when both were with the New York Giants.  Butler seems inclined to play for Coach Spags again.  However, he visited Rams Park and left without signing a contract.  No word on whether on not there was or is an offer on the table.  Butler was rumored to have a visit scheduled with the Cleveland Browns, but he never visited them.   Looks like the Rams are in the drivers seat here as well.

If the Rams lock up both of these talented secondary players, it will go a long way towards revamping their defense.
