Rams Play Hard, Lose 31-27

The St. Louis Rams finished their dissapointing 2008 season on a high note…kind of.  Steven Jackson had his best game of the year, but the Rams defense was unable to stop the run in the 4th quarter. The Rams will now have either the second or third overall selection in the NFL draft (pending tiebreakers).

Steven Jackson was the story of the game for the Rams.  Jackson had 161 yards rushing and 54 yards receiving.  He ran hard all game and was able to break tackles to get more yards after contact.  He showed all of us fans why he is the Rams best player going forward and why he should be the featured player in the Rams offense.  Jackson was also able to show what the Rams offense is capable of when he is healthy and the offensive line is opening creases for him.

The story of the Rams defense was a defense that could not stop the run, but was able to create turnovers to prevent the Falcons from scoring.  Case in point was Ron Bartell running down Michael Turner from behind and stripping the football for a touchback.

The Rams played better after submitting a petition to owner Chip Rosenbloom to keep interim head coach, Jim Haslett.  Finally, the Rams showed their desire to keep head coach Jim Haslett on the field when they have been using other means to demonstrate their opinions to this point.

The good news is that the frustrating, terrible, unfortunate 2008 St. Louis Rams season is over.  The Rams have Billy Devaney in as GM with a full offseason to fix the Rams roster and coaches.  For the Rams fans, this is the fun part.  The Rams will start asking other teams to interview their coordinators this evening, especially the four teams that have a first round bye in the NFL playoffs.  After the new coach, the Rams will work on free agency and the NFL draft.  There is a lot to look forward to now for Rams fans, let’s see what the Rams front office can do.
