And the Head Coach Front-Runners Are…

By now, we have all figured out who the Rams head coaching candidates will be.  We know who the potential new hires are out on the market.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch covered all the candidates today.  But we don’t know who the Rams favorites will be.  We here at Rams Gab will take care of the finding the answers for you.

First, the Rams front-runner will be: Jim Schwartz, defensive coordinator, Tennessee Titans.  Here’s what the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says about him:

“A big stats guy, Schwartz has an economics degree from Georgetown and is an avid chess player. Some feel he’s ready to be a head coach at age 42. He’s said to have confidence bordering on cockiness, and has kept the defense perking even though the Titans have turned over most of their starters in the past few seasons.”

I think this is where Schwartz differentiates himself from Rex Ryan and the other candidates.  He is able to keep his defense cooking even though he has had player turnover on his defense.  The Rams don’t have talent for a top 10 defense and would benefit from a scheme that capitalizes on their talents.

The second front runner will be: Rex Ryan, defensive coordinator, Baltimore Ravens.  Rex Ryan as inspired his defense to a top 5 defense every year.  Ryan interviewed for a handful of jobs last season, but was not offered a job and opted to stay as defensive coordinator in Baltimore under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.

However, both front-runners will be hurt by a long playoff runs on their teams because they will be less available for interviews.

We’ll cover the Rams candidates as they come in for interviews at Rams Park.
