Considering the increasingly impressive job he has turned in since becoming the team’s starter on the left corner, we hear free-agent-to-be Ron Bartell has become a good bet to be paid a lot of money this offseason — whether it’s the Rams paying him or not. If interim head coach Jim Haslett has his way, the re-signing of Bartell would be “the team’s 1-A priority behind No. 1 priority O.J. Atogwe,” according to one team insider. “Bartell started off as a tweener, but he has really improved.
He’s got good size and speed to go with long arms that have helped him break up far more passes than anybody on the team, and now he’s starting to make more plays, too (three interceptions in the past three games).” If Haslett isn’t retained, though, we hear Bartell just might choose to follow him out the door. “Bartell likes Haslett a lot, and he might want to see where Haslett ends up,” the insider said.
