You Have Got to Be Kidding: Rams Lose 17-16

The Rams lose their second consecutive game after blowing their second consecutive 4th quarter lead.  This lead was 13 points with 7 minutes left in the game.  This is getting ridiculous.  And in the same refrain as last week, the Rams were outscored and out gained significantly in the fourth quarter. The Rams punted twice in the fourth and the 49ers had two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

No one shall be spared from my wrath today.

Steven Jackson had 31 rushes for 111 yards, but when the Rams were trying to run out the clock, he could only get three yards and one yard on two rushes.  If he had gotten more yards on the first two plays, he would have had a chance on third down.  Instead, a pass was called and Bulger threw incomplete to Torry Holt.

OJ Atogwe had an interception and a forced fumble and fumble recovery, but the defensive backfield was unable to keep the 49ers out of the endzone when it counted most.

Jackson and Atogwe are probably the Rams two best players, and at first glance it looked like they had good games, but they were unable to close like that Rams have been unable to do when they have had a rare lead in 2008.

In the spirit of the holidays, I only have one thing to say…humbug.  The Rams had a 13 point lead with seven minutes left and it only took about 5 minutes for the Rams to blow that lead.  What is the Rams problem in the 4th quarter?  Are the Rams tired?  Are they unmotivated?  Are the Rams coaches not making adjustments?  Its WAY too late in the year for us to explore these issues.  At this point, we Rams fans do not care.  Let’s get rid of the coaches and players both and get some players in who care.

With this loss, the Rams have essentially clinched the 2nd overall pick in the NFL draft for the second straight year.  Also on the bright side, the game was blacked out in St. Louis and there were a lot of seats empty at the Edward Jones Dome – so most Rams fans were spared from this abomination.
