Steven Jackson: So, Now I’m Officially Worried

I’ve been talking a big game all throughout training camp and the beginning of the preseason about Steven Jackson’s holdout. I officially said that I stopped worrying and was loving the rest for the big guy. All that positive energy has now come and gone. After two preseason games in which the offense went *clunk* for three straight quarters, that calm has been replaced with fear.

Everyone watching knew that Steven Jackson would have gotten into the end zone with multiple chances against the San Diego Chargers. The replacements did not and the Rams offense still hasn’t scored a touchdown in preseason since Scott Linehan became coach.

There have been a few scattering reports on both ends of the negotiations. Some say that the Rams have approached Jackson. Some say that Jackson is becoming dissatisfied with his agent about the holdout. We don’t know who to believe. In this case, no news is terrible, no good, very bad news. And no news is exactly what we are getting.

This is a different case than a rookie holding out before he’s even played a down in the NFL. Steven Jackson is the whole Rams offense. He makes Bulger better, he make Holt better. He makes the Offensive Line not as crappy. Without him, the Rams are the offense that turns the ball over constantly and doesn’t move the ball.

The wonderful thing about the NFL is that every team thinks they have a chance before the season starts. That hope is all but extinguished for Rams fans without Mr. Steven Jackson. And that may be more than a down-trodden franchise can take at this point.

If you go 3-13 again, we the fans, will stop coming. Bring on the Blues, at least they seem to care about winning.

I credit my post with getting the Big Guy back in the line-up. You’re welcome St. Louis.
