The Loe Down on a Few Things Football

Favre

My next attempt to beet the Steven Jackson holdout horse to death.

11 days of Rams camp have elapsed, and the impasse between the team and running back Steven Jackson is showing no signs of coming to a close. 39 now owes a total of $165000 in fines, and is missing the joint practice between the Rams and Titans in Nashville. Today is the infamous deadline for Jackson to report and accrue a year of seniority towards unrestricted free agency in the event that he doesn’t get a new deal with the Rams, and the collective bargaining agreement isn’t extended.

I want to rays one more point in regard to the deadline that may or may not be valid. I would pose this question. It is my understanding that a player’s pension is at least in part based on a player’s years of accrued service. ($5600 for every season after a player’s third according to some available internet reports.) If so, might Jackson be taking a small chunk out of his pension for life after the game? Just one more wrinkle in a story being totally overshadowed by happenings elsewhere in the state of Wisconsin. And so for now concludes this portion of the Favre free zone.

Dear Mr. Favre, please stop making fantasy football harder then it needs to be.

With the well documented debacle in Green Bay capturing headlines all over the place, it is hard to escape the endless break down of the various possibilities for what the Pack will do with Brett Favre. With fantasy football drafts sprouting up in the coming weeks, what impact does this mess have on members of the Packer offense? Gregg Jennings, Donald Driver, Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Grant, and yes, even Brett Favre are all names that will be drafted in almost all leagues. Especially with the two signal callers, the outcome of this nightmare will affect these players. So please Green Bay, figure this out, the “Windy City Hit men” need answers. For what its worth, I love Jennings and Rodgers, and am not as high on Ryan Grant, sounds like last year’s second rounder Brandon Jackson is having a solid camp. And while I’m on the subject

I am at a complete loss for how high to rank Peyton Manning (I am in a league with an auto draft). So I will add a request to the Colts brass to my wish list, quit sending mixed signals about when Peyton will be back!

My weekend of total football emersion…

After finishing a summer internship at a Chicago law firm this week, I finally have time to once again totally and completely throw myself in to my pro football obsession, to the delight (sarcastic) of my girlfriend friends and family. I have my weekend included a 24 hour a day every day helping of the NFL Network, repeated watching of the HOF induction speeches, a complete viewing of Redskins Colts, and finally by starting to read an instant favorite book of mine. I started The Best Game Ever by Mark Bowden. It is a detailed account of the 1958 NFL championship game, chuck full of NFL history and really interesting stuff. I would recommend it to every football fan. Granted I haven’t finished it yet, but I am finding it very difficult to put down. Get it get it get it.

I’ll be back with some Rams based thoughts and a preview of the pre-season opener on Saturday.
