Rams Jam-up at CB

The Rams currently have quite a few players at the cornerback position and newly drafted and signed Justin King to add to the mix. Is there going to be a training camp battle? Let’s lay it out RamsGab style. divides the corners up to left and right, so we will start it out on the right.

Brown, Fakhir RCB – Brown is the starter on the right unless he fails or misses another drug test. Let’s hope he makes all his drug tests as the CBs have quantity but lack quality without him.

Wade, Jonathan RCB
– Wade is the raw speedster attending his second camp. He is still raw, but has the tools to be an excellent cover corner in the future. He got burned badly a few times in 2007 and hopes to improve in 2008. Pencil him in for a backup and special teams position.

Vinnett, Darius RCB – I don’t know much about Vinnett, but he is also starting his second year. He was signed as an undrafted free agent after the 2007 draft. He played in a handful of games and recorded a handful of tackles. He looks to be a candidate for the practice squad.

Macklin, David RCB – Macklin is great for depth at corner. Rotoworld thinks that he should be no more than a dime back. Which, considering our depth, he will be if he makes the team.

Hill, Tye LCB – Tye Hill is the presumed starter on the left side. He has improved every year and is primed for a breakout this year to prove the Rams made the right pick by selecting him over Cromartie. He has speed to burn and good ball skills.

Bartell, Ron LCB
– Ron Bartell is a solid nickel corner for the Rams, but he was pressed into starting against too many number 1 receivers in 2007 with the injuries and suspensions in the secondary.

King, Justin LCB – King is the Rams recently signed 2008 4th-round draftee. He has first-round skills and plenty of speed. He will probably start out on special teams and an occasional dime back. He has a lot of potential and could challenge Bartell for the slot coverage CB position by the end of 2008.

Let’s rank em:

Practice Squad:

Macklin – Sorry, man.

With the Rams healthy and with some depth at corner, it may make more sense to slide Bartell back to Saifty, i like the idea of Wade V King fighting it out for the nickle spot.
