QB Berlin To Start vs. Bengals

St. Louis Rams quarterback Brock BerlinA setback by St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger during team meetings Thursday afternoon has made it to the extent that reserve QB Brock Berlin will be behind center when St. Louis plays the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, according to ESPN and the Associated Press.

Unfortunately, there are also signs that this may last longer than this weekend, as Rams head coach Scott Linehan stated that it is “indefinite”; he also added that newly signed QB Todd Bouman would serve as the backup QB to Berlin Sunday.  Gus Frerotte would serve as the emergency QB; Frerotte, according to Linehan, is able to hand the ball off, but cannot throw.  It has been an injury-plagued season for Bulger; besides the concussion, he has also missed playing time because of broken ribs and a sprained thumb.

Berlin was an undrafted free agent, despite going 19-5 as QB of the Miami Hurricanes.  He has spent time with Dallas and Miami, as well as time in NFL Europa.  Bouman has had 6 career starts in the NFL; he has 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions on 129-of-230 passing.  Bouman played for Minnesota in 2002 when Linehan was a coach with the Vikings; he was also released by Jacksonville on November 20 after spending 3 weeks on the Jaguars’ active roster.
