QB Berlin Says He’s Ready If Needed

If anything, you cannot accuse St. Louis Rams reserve quarterback Brock Berlin of lacking optimism.  And with good reason; we already know that Berlin is the backup QB to Marc Bulger, thanks to a shoulder injury to Gus Frerotte.  But with starting QB Marc Bulger probably starting this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals, should anything happen to Bulger, Berlin would step in.

But there’s some conditions: Bulger has to get medically cleared and get through a week of practice with no complications.  So far, so good, according to Rams head coach Scott Linehan, adding, “He looked good, a lot like he did yesterday.  He’s progressing nicely, I think.”  Linehan also stated that the Rams would more than likely sign free agent QB Todd Bouman to fill the roster spot that was recently vacated when wide receiver-kick returner Dante Hall went on the injured reserve list Thursday.

Linehan said that he was confident that Berlin could perform well should the need arise; he added, “I’m 100 percent confident in Brock.  He was on our practice squad, and he played for us and played well for the most part in the preseason. He’s been training at this level. He played in Europe. I’ve been around Brock for a couple stints. He was with us down in Miami during preseason two years ago. I know if he was called upon he’d go out and do a good job for us.”
