Bulger playing hurt

Rams quarterback Marc Bulger looks for a pass. The Rams, if anyone had noticed, played an ultra-conservative game plan Sunday in their loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday?  Why you ask?  Rams head coach Scott Linehan disclosed that quarterback Marc Bulger was playing with two broken ribs and a badly bruised knee, hence the gameplan alteration.  Linehan told Steve Korte of the Belleville News-Democrat, “He was limited going into the game.  He has a couple of broken ribs, but he played with it.  We’re not going to say that’s the reason he didn’t have his best game of his career or anything like that.  He will be much better this week; he got out of this game pretty healthy.”

Linehan emphasized that protecting Bulger was the most important thing against the Bucs last weekend; they ran the ball 34 times, while any pass plays wers short in length.  Linehan also said that he didn’t know if the injuries affected his performance.  Bulger’s QB rating was 35.6, which was the second-lowest of his career.  Assuming that Bulger continues to start for the Rams, they will have to tweak the playbook to best utilize Bulger according to his injuries and at the same time get some shots down the field with their passing game.  This is not a knock on reserve Gus Frerotte, but the Rams are in that “must-win” territory and need to get results ASAP.
